Abstract
Few scholars would dispute the significant impact of David Hume on the development of the humanities during the Enlightenment. On the one hand, his commitment to the scientific approach was unwavering, while on the other, he adopted a rigorous critical stance toward the concept of the Deity and religious faith. Hume effectively utilized his scientific knowledge to enhance his critiques, a notable example of which is his examination of the Deity's supposed absolute power. His arguments are well-supported within the scientific context of his time. This paper explores and discusses Hume’s critical perspective on the Deity as an active creator.
